REALTORS needed to run for office, stand up for property rights

Making the decision to be an RPAC Major Investor is a great first step to protecting private property rights.

But politically engaged REALTORS should take their commitment to the industry a step further and run for office, a RPAC-supported candidate said Thursday, May 7, 2015.

REALTOR Chris Seniker was elected trustee for Brighton in the April elections. He received assistance through IAR’s Opportunity Race program which urges support for those who are committed to private property rights.

Seniker said he ran for office six years ago and the experience wasn’t a positive one. Misinformation and false accusations that he would fire police officers resulted in his loss by 12 votes.

Seniker said his commitment to his community and conversations with local residents caused him to change his mind about running for a public office again.

Why reconsider?

“Our local and state governments do not always have private property ownership as a top priority,” he said.

He said he often hears that REALTORS are too busy to run for or serve in public office. After listing off his family, industry, business and community involvement he said, “Yes, I am busy.”

“As major investors we need to stop say were busy. We need to stand up and make a difference and stand up for homeownership.”

(Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. The Illinois REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) collects contributions from members of the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) for political activities. A portion of each contribution will be used for state political activities; at least 30% will be used for federal campaign purposes. The federal portion will be charged against an individual’s federal contribution limits under 2 USC 441a. Contributions are VOLUNTARY and refusal to contribute does not affect membership rights. A member may contribute more or less than the suggested amount.
