Morning Minute: NAR survey offers insights into military homebuyers

Did you know that active-military homebuyers under the age of 35 buy homes at a higher rate than their civilian counterparts of the same age. They are also more likely to buy a larger first home and use a REALTOR® in the homebuying process, according to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 2016 Veterans & Active Military Home Buyers and Sellers Profile. NAR included highlights from the survey in an infographic. Here are some of those takeaways:

  • 54 percent of veterans and 74 percent of active-military bought their home using a Veterans Affairs loan.
  • 48 percent of veterans and 63 percent of active-military moved out of state.
  • The typical age of an active-military buyer was 34.
