REALTORS® ride their own paths to defeat cancer

Member-Monday_6-27-16Not all of the Chicagoland Riding REALTORS® have met, but as they ride their bicycles during the month of June, they are unified in their cause – to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund through Great Cycle Challenge USA.

Through the first half of the month, the team has raised about $4,000 and rode a total of more than 700 miles on their bicycles.

Members of the Chicagoland Riding Realtors are: REALTOR® Karen Irace, REALTOR® Kristen Jungles, Heartland REALTOR® Organization Association Executive Jim Haisler, Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® Director of Human Resources Kim McCoy, Bradley Haisler and Katie Wilcoxon.  “We didn’t organize the event,” says Jim Haisler. “We found it online, and since we’re connected on Facebook, we saw each other’s posts and formed the team.

“Kim works for Mainstreet and she and I used to work together at RANWC (the REALTOR® Association of Northwest Chicagoland) years ago. Bradley is my son, and I believe Katie is a friend of Kim’s. We don’t have a group photo because this is a non-event type of fundraiser. There is no one day for us to meet and ride. We all ride at our own leisure.”

According to the team’s web page, participants sign up and set a goal for the number of miles they’d like to bicycle in June. They can use the Great Cycle Challenge app to record the number of miles they ride each day, or they can manually record the miles they ride through the Great Cycle Challenge USA dashboard.

Participants can log their miles by using a stationary bike by taking the Spin Bike Challenge, too.

Once participants register, they invite friends to support their cause through social media.

“I saw the opportunity online and thought it was a great opportunity to do some good,” says Irace, the treasurer for Mainstreet.  “A REALTOR® friend and a current client both have young granddaughters fighting cancer which made me feel more connected to the cause.”
