Bullard: ‘I always feel I get much more back than I give’

Joan Bullard

Odell REALTOR® Joan Bullard has discovered many ways to volunteer in Livingston County, but the Livingston County Boys and Girls Club in Pontiac has received the lion’s share of her extra time and energy in the last 16 years.

Ever since she joined the club’s board in 2005, she’s helped with fund raising events for the nonprofit organization and even served as its president, too. She believes in the services the organization provides to boys and girls, including summer camp, organized sports, educational programs, career preparation and after school activities.

“Fundraising is a big part of being a board member. We do so many things all year long,” says Bullard, who is the owner and managing broker for Joan Bullard Realty Inc., in Odell. “With all of the government cutbacks, we can hardly keep our heads above water. We serve an average of 153 children a day. We have volunteers that help the children with their homework.”

One of the most successful annual fundraising events is the Annual Duck Race on the last Saturday in July.

“I look forward every year to our Annual Duck Race in the Vermillion River,” she says. “The kids love it and come from all over to see it.  It is our biggest fund raiser.  We usually make $22,000 to $25,000.

In addition to raising money for the Boys and Girls Club, Bullard volunteers at special events at St. Paul Catholic School, makes donations to the local food pantries, sponsors six golf outings a year for causes that benefit children and sponsors the Pontiac High School football team.

“I love being a part of Livingston County and helping where I can,” says Bullard. “I always feel I get much more back then I give.”

Bullard became a REALTOR® in 2000 and joined the Livingston County Board of REALTORS® that same year.

She served on the Livingston County Board for two years and has been a trustee of the Odell Village Board for eight.
