REALTORS® can celebrate Giving Tuesday and support future U.S. disaster relief efforts by donating to the Illinois REALTORS® Relief Foundation (IRRF), the aid arm of the Illinois REALTORS®.
Illinois REALTORS® are no strangers to helping others in times of need, having contributed $135,000 to victims of hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands earlier this year. Flood victims in northeastern Illinois have received more than $62,000 in IRRF grants and nearly $66,000 in REALTOR® Relief Foundation grants for damage sustained during the summer. A total of 203 applicants received $128,061.26 in aid.
During the last decade, Illinois REALTORS® have demonstrated their commitment to helping communities in need by donating nearly $1M to help disaster victims. In addition to this year’s disasters, victims of California wildfires, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, the 9/11 attacks and numerous Illinois tornado outbreaks received aid.
What is Giving Tuesday?
Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday promotes philanthropy and collaboration. It follows holiday shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, encouraging citizens to donate their time, talent and money to help the less fortunate. Using partnerships built between individuals, families, businesses and civic and nonprofit organizations, Giving Tuesday has raised more than $177 through its website and helped countless other organizations and causes.
Local solutions to local problems
Local REALTOR® organizations also capitalize on the combined efforts of their members to help charities and nonprofit causes in their communities. Watch for “REALTORS® give back” stories that summarize the local project successes during the next five weeks.
