Woodridge-area REALTOR® Chris Read, ABR, CRB, CRS, GRI, SRES received the Seniors Real Estate Specialist’s® Outstanding Service Award Saturday night at the National Association of REALTORS® Conference and Expo in Chicago.
Read received her award at the ABR®, SRES® and Green Networking and Awards Reception at the Chicago Marriott Hotel.
Chris Read is honored for her work to promote senior housing resources with the SRES Outstanding Service Award.
She is the managing broker-owner of CR REALTOR® and CEO of CR Strategies in Woodridge. She was the 2016 Illinois REALTOR® of the Year. She’s chaired the sate association’s Professional Standards Committee and the Senior Housing Working Group. She is a licensed real estate instructor and she’s taught numerous classes for Illinois REALTORS®.
In addition, Read’s played a longtime role in Illinois REALTOR® governance and shaping the association’s professional standards efforts.
During her real estate career of about 40 years, she’s served as a leader on the local, state and national levels. She’s a member of the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS®, is a former president and its 2007 REALTOR® of the Year.

Illinois REALTORS® President-elect Dan Wagner and REALTOR® Alex Ruggieri were both honored for excellence in commercial real estate Saturday during the REALTORS® Conference & Expo in Chicago on Saturday.
Wagner, of Wheaton, is the senior vice president of government relations for the Oak Brook-based Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate and finance organizations.
Ruggieri, CCIM, CIPS, CRE, GRI, is the senior investment advisor
with SVN-Ramshaw Real Estate in Champaign. Ruggieri is the chair of NAR’s Commercial Leadership Forum, where the awards winners were honored on Saturday.

Abraham Lincoln paid a visit to the Illinois REALTORS® booth at the NAR Conference and Expo Saturday to help celebrate the state’s upcoming 200th anniversary.
Lincoln, portrayed by Fritz Klein of Springfield, posed for pictures with expo attendees at McCormick Place West where the association had its booth. Visitors could stop by and get a special commemorative pin along with their selfie with Abe.

Illinois’s 200th years as a state is in 2018, and Illinois REALTORS® has a number of activities planned to commemorate the occasion.
Local REALTOR® associations are undertaking service projects and providing support for historical sites in the state, and Bicentennial Plaza, A REALTOR® Community Partnership is being built just north of the association’s headquarters.
The Bicentennial Plaza has been designated a Signature Project by the state Bicentennial Commission.

The NAR Global Business Council Forum at the REALTORS® Conference and Expo Thursday highlighted the Illinois REALTORS® through two presentations where we were used as examples for success.
First, Erik Brejla, Assistant Deputy Director for Foreign Investment and Site Selection from the Illinois Department of Commerce highlighted the recent trade mission that Illinois REALTORS® Immediate Past-President Doug Carpenter, CEO Gary Clayton, and Consulate Liaison REALTOR® Ayumi Deloney participated alongside Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner. The mission was to Japan and the focus was to attract investment and corporate relocation here to Illinois. This trip highlighted how REALTORS® are a major partner in creating jobs and increasing economic development for the state.
Then, Emily Line, Vice President of Commercial Services for the REALTORS® Property Resource showcased three Illinois REALTORS® from Caton Commercial Group. Principal Bill Caton and brokers Steve Caton and Andy Velkme are helping bring investment to Illinois through the newest trend in multifamily residential real estate. The co-living model that became famous in Europe is now seeking its way to the U.S. RPR was one of the sources used in helping these brokers share key data points with the investor.
Through member expertise, leadership, participation and support the Illinois REALTORS® are becoming national leaders in global business and economic development.

Illinois REALTORS® and its Global Business Council welcomed an internationally-focused crowd to Chicago on Thursday at a reception.
The association was sponsor of the International REALTORS® Welcome Event, which was opened by Illinois REALTORS® President Matt Difanis.

“This is an extraordinary community that cherishes the freedom that comes with property ownership and the commitment to a Code of Ethics which respects each nation’s norms, but supports making “REALTOR®” a globally-respected brand,” Difanis told a packed ballroom at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
Illinois REALTORS® has played a longstanding role in promoting training and exposure to international real estate. The state association has partnered with the National Association of REALTORS® to participate in the annual MIPIM conference in France, and established a Consulate General Liaison Program which links foreign investors with interest in Illinois with a REALTOR® who has expertise in cross-border transactions.
“This industry continues to offer opportunities for those seeking to realize the dream of property ownership,” Difanis said. “And the industry continues to benefit from the expertise of those in this room.”
REALTORS® are in Chicago for the annual Conference and Trade Expo. It ends Monday with the national association’s Board of Director’s meeting.
