REALTORS® applying for the Past President’s Scholarship, the Roxanne Malo Scholarship and the Margery D. Shinners Scholarship should submit their applications, letters of recommendation and any other materials so they arrive in by Oct. 1.

The Past Presidents Scholarship is for Illinois REALTORS® – and Illinois residents – who want to pursue the: Certified Residential Broker (CRB); Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS); Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM); Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI undergraduate only); or REALTOR® Association Certified Executive (RACE) designation. Malo

The Roxanne Malo Leadership Scholarship Fund is for individuals wishing to further their education through leadership training in a real estate related field. Scholarship grants may also be awarded for leadership training by: a junior college, college or university; the Illinois REALTORS®; the National Association of REALTORS®, its institutes, councils or societies; a local Chamber of Commerce; the American Society of Association Executives or similar organizations. Shinners

Margery D. Shinners Scholarship was established for women wishing to study association management. Scholarships will be awarded for training programs offered by: the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE); Chicago Forum; the Illinois Society of Association Executives (ISAE); the Illinois REALTORS®; the National Association of REALTORS®; or a higher educational institution. Illinois REEF gives $30K in college scholarships for upcoming school year

The Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF) announced 28 winners of college scholarships for the 2017-18 school year. The total amount distributed to those recipients is $30,000.

The recipients of the REALTORS® 2017 Academic Scholarship are:

  • Ashley Polluck, Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL; and
  • Kadestrick Russell, Joseph Business School in Forest Park, IL.

The winner of the 2017 Morgan L. Fitch Scholarship is Nathan MaCatty, a student at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.

The beneficiary of the 2017 Thomas F. Seay Scholarship is Orian Shkrobut, a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.

Four students will receive 2017 Richard D. Wiegers Scholarships:

  • Megan Brackett, University of Illinois in Champaign;
  • Brad Franke, University of Illinois, Springfield;
  • Brandi Moore, University of Illinois, Springfield; and
  • John Parise, University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.

Twenty students will receive 2017 James Kinney Scholarships:

  • Taylor Badger, University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI;
  • Emily Caparelli, Portland State University, Portland, OR;
  • Jacob Doehring, Parkland College in Champaign, IL;
  • Alexandria Epperson, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL;

Attending the REALTOR® of the Year Banquet Tuesday night at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield were five college students who received 2016 scholarships from the Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF).

The students were:

  • Brad Franke, University of Illinois at Springfield (Springfield, IL) Richard Wiegers Scholarship;
  • Lillian Harris, Roosevelt University (Chicago, IL) Thomas Seay Scholarship;
  • Alanna Kozar, Southeast Missouri State University (Cape Girardeau, MO), Jim Kinney Scholarship;
  • Tori Londrigan, Whitman College (Walla Walla, WA) , Jim Kinney Scholarship; and
  • Madaline Sale, Miami University (Miami, OH), Jim Kinney Scholarship.

In 2016, REEF gave $52,800 in scholarships to 65 recipients.

Joy, respect, dedication key parts of Miller ROTY success story

As Sue Miller accepted the 2017 Illinois REALTOR® of the Year award Tuesday night in Springfield, she thanked every colleague in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum for their support and their shared passion for helping others through real estate.

“As I stand before you tonight receiving this amazing recognition,” said the managing broker of Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group in McHenry, “I feel your love and I am committed to making this industry better. Thank you for this recognition.”

A previous winner of the Illinois REALTORS Distinguished Service Award, Miller encouraged others with her “simple” life philosphies:

  • “If you stop learning, you stop living.”
  • “Love unconditionally and expect nothing less in return.”
  • “Live each day as if it were your last.”

She served two terms as president of her local association and was twice honored as local REALTOR® of the Year.

At the state level, Miller has served a total of 11 years on the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors. An industry trainer as well as REALTOR®, she is committed to promoting education, ethics and professional development. She has served multiple terms as chair of the Education Working Group and is a long-time member of the REEF board of directors.

She is a “Sterling R” contributor to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee and is one of a select few in the state who has been honored with the Illinois REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award. She has been active with the National Association of REALTORS®, is a member of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® and is a past president of the Illinois Chapter of the Council of Residential Specialists.

Twenty four local associations also celebrated their own REALTORS® of the Year.

  • Mac Boyd of Farmers National Company, Arcola, is ROTY for the Central Illinois Board of REALTORS®.
  • Laura Boyer of Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group of Sycamore represents the Hometown Association of REALTORS®.
  • Eve Bremen of Coldwell Banker Residential in Glencoe is the ROTY for the North Shore Barrington Association of REALTORS®.
  • Rebekah Carlson of Next Realty, LLC in Skokie represents the Northern Illinois Commercial Association of REALTORS® (NICAR).
  • Mark Coleman of Coleman Land Company in St. Charles represents the REALTOR® Association of the Fox Valley.
  • Patrick Dalessandro of Coachlight Realty in Niles represents the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS®.
  • Susan Gant of RE/MAX Executives Plus in Decatur represents the Decatur Association of REALTORS®.

Another trio celebrated at June 6 ROTY banquet

Among the 24 local REALTORS® who’ll be honored at the 36th Annual REALTOR® of the Year Banquet will be Wayne Kurchina, Laura Boyer and Andrea Greenwalt.

The event will attract members from all over the state to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield on June 6. The guest of honor will be Illinois REALTOR® of the Year Sue Miller, managing broker for Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group, in McHenry. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:15 p.m. The deadline for ordering tickets is May 30. Tickets are $75 each.

Here are some details about the three local winners mentioned above:

Wayne Kurchina of ILrealty, Inc., Kurchina & Associates in McHenry will represent the Heartland REALTOR® Organization (HRO). Kurchina served Heartland in many capacities, including local organization president in 2016. He’s been on the Illinois REALTORS® Commercial/Industrial/Investment Committee for three years. He is broker-owner of ILrealty, Inc. Kurchina & Associates.

Laura Boyer of Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group of Sycamore will represent the Hometown Association of REALTORS®. Boyer has served as Hometown president, on its Social Public Relations Committee. She won the Lamplighter Award and the 2016 Eddy Award. This RPAC Major Investor is a Hometown director and serves on the DeKalb Schools Facility/Finance Advisory Committee.

Andrea Greenwalt of Janko Realty & Development in Peru and will be the REALTOR® of the Year for the Illini Valley Association of REALTORS® (IVAR). She is the Illini Valley president, coaches at Tonica schools and volunteers at the Illinois Valley Peru PADS Shelter.
